Children need another person as a companion in order for them to feel a positive relationship that provides comfort, love, loyalty, and affection. This kind of relationship gives children the drive to become a good caretaker and at the same time, provides children a sense of support to handle situations easier and better. There’s no doubt that parents strive hard in order to demonstrate that to their children. But due to responsibilities and the necessity to work outside the household, parents’ attention, support, and being there for their children are not always available. As a result, parents would resort to requesting favors from others to look after their children. Sometimes these decisions would turn out okay, however, there are circumstances when no one is available to watch out for the children, or yet the inconsistency of the company does not meet the connection a child seeks. With that, it would be suitable for children to be provided with a companion that does not only ensure a positive relationship with them but one that will always be there. Sometimes, this companion comes in four legs!
Dogs have always been dubbed as man’s best friend. They never fail to put a smile on your face no matter how down you are because they bring effortless joy. The constant affection, attention, and loyalty that they show are just a few of the many factors why dogs are the best companion for your children.
Following owners around is something that dogs usually practice as a way of showing their trust, love, and feeling of security. From just getting up to grab a bottle of water, a furry buddy with wide and sparkly eyes will be close behind you, wagging its tail from left to right with great anticipation. Dogs follow their humans around because they are given attention and in return, they will also provide the same or even a greater amount of attention back to them. That being said, dogs are ideal choices for providing children with consistent attentiveness.
Another reason why parents should get their children a dog is because they know how to be there for you. Dogs know how to comfort their owners during times of hardships, in their own way. When their owners are distressed, dogs want to comfort them and will go to great lengths to do so. A personal experience proves this right. I was feeling upset one time and raced upstairs to cry my heart out. Seconds later, my dog joined me and laid down next to me, staring at me, seemingly concerned about how I was feeling at the time. Later that day, while I was sobbing in our backyard, another one of my dogs approached me and placed her head on my lap, making a sorrowful whine that really impacted me because her presence comforted me during a difficult moment. Situations involving a person going through a tough time would be made much easier if there was someone who could give comfort to lessen the pain, which could be accomplished with the mere presence of a furry pet.
Additionally, dogs are extremely playful. The amount of energy they have to chase a bunch of objects or other pets around, as well as fetching, tugging, rolling, and leaping over fences, will never fail to provide their owners the energy that drives them to tag along with whatever activities their dogs will partake in. The kind of energy that dogs showcase will result in extreme productivity that will strengthen the bond of their owners and at the same time, have something to look forward to in the day which would be spending time with your dog. As a dog owner, it’s an experience like no other when you’re playing with your pet–racing around the house, snuggling with each other, and just enjoying the time you have with one another. And this happens because the connection you have as pet and owner generates the willingness to spend quality time with each other.
Since owning a dog entails taking good care of them, owners will go to any length to ensure that they are properly cared for. Being a pet owner doesn’t only involve affection, or creating happy moments together with your pet but it also involves giving your pet proper nutrition, giving them a safe environment, grooming, cleaning up after them and many more. This goes to show that having a pet is a major responsibility. When children are gifted with pets, such as dogs, they are expected to provide adequate care and sustenance for their pets. Children will be motivated to discipline themselves to be responsible pet owners by providing their paw friends appropriate food, water, shelter, health care and companionship. Apart from that, kids will be able to organize their time well in order to cater to their pets, such as for feeding time, exercise time, bathing time, rest time, and whatnot. Giving kids a dog will allow them to experience what it’s like taking care of a child. Patience will also be tested because they get to teach, train, and reprimand their pets when necessary. I have been taking care of dogs and other pets ever since I was young and I can really say that I was able to discipline myself to be a responsible owner in order to provide affection, bond, and quality care for my dogs.
Having a dog around is a package deal. You get to feel joy, contentment, and love while also allowing you to become responsible and learn a lot from the experience of taking care of another life. Furthermore, you are provided with stress-relieving comfort. It's like having a best friend, a family, and a companion all in one! It’s safe to say that the decision to get one is always worth it.
