We all have our favorites, don't we? From the food we eat, the places we visit, and even in the clothes we wear, there are always things that we can’t help but hold dear in our hearts. And pets are no exception to that. (There's no competition though—we love all breeds for all different kinds of reasons!) Let's have a sneak peek on what cat breeds are most commonly pampered in Filipino households. Buckle up and get ready to coo at these beautiful kitties!

First on the list, is our very own Philippine Shorthair or locally referred to as, ‘puspin’. They are the most common breed of cat taken in as pets in Filipino households. They are often the ones chasing mice or rats who stand in their way. At times, they could be seen playing with other cats or angrily meowing at dogs. One of the most prominent characteristics of a puspin is that they are very playful, always enthusiastic, and just really fun to be with. If they’re not at home with their owners, they can be found in the streets where they either play with fellow puspins or hunt for food.

Next on our list, behold, the Persian Longhair, also otherwise known as the Persian Cat. These cats are easily identifiable because of their physical appearance such as their huge and circular head, long pretty fur, and tantalizing big round eyes. They might look prissy and aloof, but they are known to be sweetest and the friendliest as they are very easy going. They are very pleasant and will not scratch you unless you annoy them! They are also very playful, but not to the point that they come off commanding.

Third on the list is the Siamese Cat. This cat breed originating from Thailand is known to be very intelligent and can be trained to do very simple things like high-five, fetch, and many others! But don’t expect them to drive for you, alright? Siamese cats are highly intuitive and are deemed to be the oldest breed in Asia. Thai legend has it that Siamese cats are as rare as gold, and that anybody who possesses one will become wealthy. Today, this legend is still told in Thailand as a humorous explanation for the scarcity of Siamese cats. This cat breed is highly sociable, energetic, and they get along with almost everyone, too.

Fourth on our list is the Russian Blue. This cat breed is a lovely feline as well as a wonderful buddy. These cats, with smooth, silky, short coats in varying colors of silvery blue-gray, cheerfully follow their family members around the house, but are likely to hide when strangers appear. During their kitten years, these cats will try to hide in unbelievable places, but once gradually taught which areas are theirs to sit on and which should be avoided, they'll normally stay in designated areas. As their coat seemingly appears to be silverish or grayish with gray tips, it gives them a bluish kind of appearance. Hence the name, Russian blue.

Last, but definitely not the least on our list, is the American Shorthair. Choose a color! Whatever your favorite cat color is, there's a good chance you'll find an American Shorthair to match. There are around 80 different colors and patterns for American Shorthair cats. These cats are very playful, highly hospitable, and very accepting to other pets. (They also chase rats, too! You bet, they could become besties with the puspin.) Though they are very reserved and demure, they can be really enthusiastic since they are of the working class origin. Thanks to their general good health, American Shorthair cats live long lives, typically reaching 15 years.
