Editorial Guidelines

Who We Are

The Animal Print is a student-led digital magazine dedicated to delivering fun, heartwarming, and relevant content about pets and animals.

Target Audience

We write for budding pet owners and animal lovers who actively read and engage online with heartwarming content about animals.

Content Categories
We publish different types of articles and content based on the following categories:

Treats for Pet Owners - List articles that give pet owners and future pet owners some tips in taking care of their life companions.
Examples:

  • Things to do with your pets this summer

  • Pet-friendly establishments

  • Easy homemade treats you can make for your pets

ComPAWnion Chronicles - Stories from pet owners and animal lovers of their encounters with pets and other animals as well as features on our sponsors and other animal NGOs.
Examples:

  • Taking care of pets with disabilities

  • Growing up with a childhood pet

  • Adoption events and donation drives of NGOs

Meowsings of the Mind - This includes opinion pieces on current issues affecting animals.
Examples:

  • State of dog impounds

  • Why more people should adopt, not shop

  • Why having pets must be taken seriously

Mini TAP - Short form content about animals that has a multimedia element (e.g. graphics, GIFs, videos) as its main subject and supplementary text for context.
Examples:

  • Fun facts

  • Comic strips or other art

  • 30 second video stories

Contributor Guidelines

The Animal Print accepts articles from contributors. This is entirely voluntary; no payment will be given to those who will contribute. Ownership of the contributions shall belong to the website once it is published. You as the contributor have all the right to promote and share your article online, provided that you link back to our website.

Tone

We want our articles to be friendly, fun, and engaging. Contributors shall write in the first person using the personal pronouns “I”, “me”, and “my”. Feel free to talk to the audience as if you are talking to friends. Animal puns and other creative word play related to pets are highly encouraged!

Opinion pieces, though centering around heavier topics, should be inspiring or moving and not aggressive. If they talk about sad issues, they must not be depressing or upsetting.

Other Specifics

We only accept articles written in English. Articles must have 800-1,000 words. As for photos, high quality personal pictures are preferred. They must either be square or landscape. If you use stock photos, make sure they are free and indicate where or who they are from for proper crediting.

 

For Mini TAP, multimedia elements must be originally made with your signature or trademark displayed. They must also be either square or landscape. Once published, The Animal Print’s logo will be put on the multimedia element. Supplementary text must have 50-200 words.

Prohibitions

  • No profanity and vulgar content

  • No hate speech

  • Product reviews and advertisements are not allowed

  • Plagiarized articles and stolen content will not be accepted

How to Contribute

​​Send a completed draft to theanimalprint.cebu@gmail.com as a Word attachment or a Google Document link.

Format of the Subject line shall be: “Name - Contribution (Article Category)” (example: Juan dela Cruz - Contribution (Treats for Pet Owners)). 

 

The draft will first be checked by the editorial staff. We shall respond to let you know if it’s approved or not. Then, the article shall go into editing for any grammar and spelling errors or slight tweaks in the tone of the article. When published, we will send to you via email a link to the website so you can share and promote to your family and friends.
